Camp Osceola: The Official Start of Summer

Some people will argue that it's the Memorial Day Week-end, but Southerners know it's when the thistle blooms...this year we can all agree since it's all happening at once!

The Story Behind the Name

Long ago, after purchasing this little house and it's 1/3 acre, I decided it needed a name. Don't ask why, it just seemed like a good idea at the time. Big grand manor names or names implying large amounts of land certainly did not apply. Somehow, "Camp Osceola" which is based on it's location, stuck in my mind. Maybe because when you live in an old house with property that has seen it's fair share of neglect, the projects and the improvements are never-ending. You feel as though you are perpetually in BOOT camp. Put a tin roof on the place, add a porch to the front and a pond in the back, and you could be at FISH camp. Throw in a few kids and a passel of pets, and on any given day, you FEEL like you are camping. Not sure why but the name stuck. It's a state of mind.
